NACB and SACPO stand for right to investigate cases against parliamentarians without PGO approval

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NACB) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SACPO) are in favor of granting them the right to investigate criminal proceedings against parliamentarians without approval from the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) and the Prosecutor General.

The NACB Director Semen Kryvonos and the SACPO Head Oleksandr Klymenko stated this at a press conference, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"We ask to be granted the right to initiate an investigation into such subjects without approval from the Prosecutor General," Klymenko said.

The NACB Director supported him, because in his opinion, this is a certain discomfort for the investigation and the risk of data "draining".

"We receive operational information that this subject is to receive a bribe in the coming days. We are obliged to register criminal proceedings. We go to the Prosecutor General and feel discomfort. This is illogical, because we involve a third party in the case who is not involved in the case. This creates risks that information may "leak" to the defendants. We support such changes," said Kryvonos.

The NACB and the SACPO also advocate the creation of a separate expert institution to conduct examinations for both the investigation and the defense.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the NACB has opened a case regarding possible abuses by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

The NACB and the SACPO served a notice of suspicion to the current parliamentarian. He turned out to be the co-leader of an organized group that was exposed for misappropriating Ukrzaliznytsia funds during the purchase of cable and wire products.
