On the opening day of the Invictus Games 2025 in Canada, Ukraine held its first match. It was a meeting with Colombia in the wheelchair basketball tournament, which ended with the victory of the Ukrainians.

As reported, the sporting events at the Invictus Games began immediately after the opening ceremony - six wheelchair basketball matches were held. According to the draw, Ukraine was placed in Group C - with Colombia, the Un ited Kingdom and a team of Afghan soldiers.
Ukraine held the first match at the tournament against Colombia. The game itself consisted of two quarters of 10 minutes each. Already in the first quarter, Ukraine gained a comfortable advantage, which it held until the end of the match.
The first quarter ended with a score of 10:3, and the match itself - 12:6 in favor of the "blue-yellow" team. Valerii Odainyk (scored the first points in the tournament), Kostiantyn Kopeliuk, Viktor Dykyi and Oleksandr Andriienko - all 2 points each. The most productive player was Anatolii Byrko - 4 points.
It is noted that the next match Ukraine will play against the team from Afghanistan - February 9 at 6:20 p.m. Kyiv time. According to the regulations, the meeting with the UK is not planned in the group stage.
After two matches in the group, which all teams will play, semi-final pairs will be formed.
It is worth noting that the Invictus Games2 025 will be held in Canada (Vancouver and Whistler) from February 8 to 16. These are the first-ever winter hybrid Games.
Ukraine is participating in the Invictus Games for the fifth time. This year, our team will be represented by the largest team - 35 servicemen and veterans who were wounded, injured or fell ill during or as a result of their duties in the combat zone of the russian-Ukrainian war since 2014.
In total, 550 participants from 25 countries are participating in the Invictus Games.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the first football tournament for people with amputations was previously held in Ukraine.
