US announces plans of new Pentagon chief for Ramstein meeting on Ukraine

The Pentagon reports that at the upcoming meeting in the Ramstein format, the new US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth will confirm US President Donald Trump's commitment to the earliest possible "diplomatic cessation of the war in Ukraine".

This is stated on the official website of the US Department of Defense.

The Pentagon notes that on February 10, Hegseth will leave for a week-long trip to Germany, Belgium and Poland.

The first visit will be to Germany, after which the Pentagon chief will go to Brussels (Belgium) to participate in the meeting of NATO defense ministers and the contact group on defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format.

"In his first meeting at the NATO ministerial level with his colleagues from the Alliance, he will discuss with NATO members and partners the need to increase the Alliance's defense spending, strengthen European leadership, and expand the capabilities of the defense-industrial base on both sides of the Atlantic," the US Department of Defense said.

At Ramstein, which will be held for the first time under the chairmanship of Great Britain, according to the US Department of Defense, Hegseth will confirm Trump's commitment to an early "diplomatic end to the war in Ukraine." He will also emphasize the need to strengthen European leadership in providing security assistance to Ukraine.

Hegseth will then travel to Poland.
