Zelenskyy signs law banning removal of organs from deceased servicemen for transplantation

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed bill No. 9558, which proposes to ban the removal of organs for transplantation from deceased servicemen.

This is evidenced by the bill's card on the Verkhovna Rada website, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The document provides for a ban on the removal of organs from the following persons:

  • those who were killed (died) as a result of the use of coercive measures by law enforcement, security and other structures;
  • from members of the defense and security forces who were killed while performing their official duties in Ukraine or in certain areas where martial law has been imposed;
  • those who were killed (died) as a result of armed aggression against Ukraine.

The bill also provides for the establishment of conditions for the automatic search for a donor-patient pair in the Unified State Information System for Organ and Tissue Transplantation.
