The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was forced to postpone the rotation of its mission at the Zaporizhzhia NPP due to lack of security guarantees from russia.
The spokesman for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhii Tykhyi, has reported this.
“This is not the first time that the Kremlin has used blackmail as a tool to intimidate international experts and undermine their independence. For example, during one of the previous rotations, Russia struck an IAEA vehicle with a drone,” the report says.
It is noted that moscow has at least two reasons to put pressure on the IAEA’s independence. The first is to forcefully impose international recognition of the illegal occupation of the Ukrainian NPP. The second is to manipulate the operational situation in the area around the station. Tykhyi said that Ukraine will not allow any of these intentions to be implemented.
“Ukraine highly appreciates the work of the IAEA in unprecedented security conditions. We will not allow Russia to undermine the Agency’s independence and impartiality to achieve its criminal goals. We call on the international community to firmly support the IAEA and resolutely condemn the unprecedented pressure that the aggressor state continues to exert on its leadership,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Grossi named two reasons why a nuclear accident could occur in Ukraine.
On December 10, a drone damaged an official vehicle of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the road to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (Zaporizhzhia NPP).
