Cigarette prices will not be increased "retroactively" - Hetmantsev

The increase in excise duties on cigarettes will not take place "retroactively", despite the specified effective date of January 1.

This was said in an interview with Ukrainian News Agency by Danylo Hetmantsev, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, head of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax and customs policy.

According to the norms of the adopted law on increasing excise duties on cigarettes, it was supposed to come into force on January 1.

The document has not yet been signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Only after signing and publication will the law come into force.

"There are no consequences, except for shortfalls in the budget. The law will not have retroactive effect," Hetmantsev said regarding the unsigned law.

Hetmantsev expressed misunderstanding regarding the delay in signing the law on increasing excise duties on cigarettes.

According to him, the law has no substantive comments, and its non-signing will lead to a shortfall in budget revenues.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has not signed the law on increasing the excise tax on cigarettes for over a month.
