North Korean troops were withdrawn from the front line in the Kursk Oblast after suffering heavy losses in hostilities, The New York Times reported.
North Korean troops have not been seen on the front lines for about two weeks, the officials told reporters after requesting anonymity to discuss sensitive military and intelligence matters.
North Korea has reportedly sent about 11,000 troops to russia. The North Korean force has been halved in size in three months of hostilities.
US officials told the NYT that the decision to withdraw North Korean troops from the front line could change. They said it was possible that North Korean soldiers could return to the battlefield after additional training or after the russians find new ways to deploy them to avoid such heavy losses.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the British Ministry of Defense previously stated that the DPRK troops suffered losses of about 4,000 soldiers in combat operations against Ukrainian troops in the Kursk Oblast of the aggressor state of russia, a quarter of them were killed in battle. Most likely, the North Korean military is facing difficulties in interoperability with the russians.
