Total ruin: National Guardsmen show what Chasiv Yar looks like after 9 months of street fighting

Servicemen of the Donbas Special Forces Battalion of the 18th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine showed what Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk Region looks like now. The city was completely destroyed after nine months of street fighting and intense shelling by the occupiers.

The unit published the corresponding images on its Facebook page on January 29.

Several photos of Chasiv Yar were taken by a Ukrainian military drone.

They show destroyed multi-story buildings in the western part and the territory of the Chasiv Yar refractory plant.

Chasiv Yar: what is the situation in the city

The fighting for Chasiv Yar began in mid-April 2024, when the occupiers entered the outskirts of the Kanal microdistrict, located in the eastern part of Chasiv Yar. It is separated from the rest of the city by the Siverskyi Donets - Donbas canal.

Since then, heavy and bloody street battles have been ongoing in Chasiv Yar. The city's defense is complicated by regular artillery shelling and air strikes by the occupiers, which caused such destruction of the city's buildings.

Despite the destruction of the city, fighting and shelling continue to affect civilians. As of the end of December 2024, about 250 civilians remained in Chasiv Yar.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 16, the Luhansk operational-tactical group stated that the russians were trying to take advantage of the foggy weather to penetrate deep into Chasiv Yar.

Recall that in October 2024, the occupiers' FPV drone exploded near the car of the mayor of Chasiv Yar, Serhii Chaus, when he and his assistant were evacuating a civilian.
