Trump administration resumes funding for some humanitarian programs – NYT

On Tuesday, the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump partially backed down from an order to suspend almost all U.S. foreign aid programs, allowing new exceptions for what it called "life-saving humanitarian assistance."

This is reported by The New York Times.

Thus, in a memo from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to federal agencies and aid recipients, which was obtained by The Times, it is stated that such programs "should continue or resume work if they have stopped."

Rubio's memo specified that the aid, which was recently removed from the scope of the order signed by President Trump last week, includes "essential life-saving medicines, medical services, food, housing and livelihood assistance."

At the same time, he specifically excluded funding for "activities related to abortion, family planning conferences" and "gender-specific programs or ideology to combat racism, discrimination and intolerance, surgeries for transgender people or other assistance that is not life-saving."

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Trump administration had previously begun to suspend the supply of life-saving drugs against HIV, malaria and tuberculosis, as well as medical supplies for newborns to countries supported by USAID around the world. This is part of the freeze on American aid and funding imposed by Donald Trump.
