Romania scrambles F-16s due to russian drone attack on Ukraine

On the morning of January 29, russian occupiers attacked port infrastructure facilities in Ukraine near the Romanian border in Tulcea County. Romania scrambled F-16s due to the attack, and also warned the population of the danger in the area of Chilia Veche.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense has reported this.

Thus, the monitoring and surveillance systems of the Ministry of National Defense reported the appearance of drones in the airspace of Ukraine on the route approaching the border with Romania.

"In this regard, at about 3.20 a.m., two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, which are part of the Air Police Combat Service, took off from the 86th air base in Borcea to monitor the air situation. The aircraft returned to the base approximately two hours later," the report says.

In addition, the National Military Command Center informed the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations about the implementation of measures to alert the population in the Chilia Veche area. As a result, at 3:05 a.m., an RO-Alert message was sent, and at 4:08 a.m., the cancellation of alert measures in this area was announced.

According to radar data, no penetration of the monitored air targets into the country's airspace was recorded.

"The forces of the Ministry of Defense will conduct surveys in areas where risks may arise as a result of these situations during this day and will continue airspace monitoring missions. Allied structures are also informed in real time about the situations arising from the attacks," the agency added.

The Romanian Ministry of National Defense also strongly condemned these attacks carried out by the russian federation against Ukrainian civilian objects and infrastructure, which are "unjustified and seriously violate international law."
