Israeli PM could be first foreign leader to visit Trump after inauguration

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could visit the White House early next week. If he does, Netanyahu will be the first foreign leader to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump since his inauguration, CNN reported.

The channel said the preliminary agreement on the visit was reached during a phone call between the two leaders days before last week's inauguration. Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff visited the region, including Israel, this week, where details of the upcoming meeting were likely being worked out.

However, according to U.S. and Israeli officials, planning for the visit is still ongoing and no specific date has been officially set. Netanyahu's spokesman said on social media that no formal invitation had been received yet.

Earlier it became known that the Trump administration had lifted the ban on the supply of 900-kilogram bombs to Israel, introduced by the previous U.S. President Joe Biden.

It was also reported that Donald Trump was preparing a decree on the creation of a "next-generation" defensive shield to protect the United States from ballistic missiles and other long-range attacks by analogy with Israel's "Iron Dome".
