Record broken - total public debt reaches historic USD 166 billion

The total public (direct and guaranteed) debt of Ukraine in December compared to the previous month increased by 3.9%, or by USD 6.29 billion, to USD 166.06 billion.

This is stated in the data of the Ministry of Finance, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

The public and state-guaranteed debt at the end of December amounted to UAH 6,980.93 billion, or USD 166.06 billion, compared to UAH 6,644.68 billion, or USD 159.74 billion, a month earlier.

The total amount of direct public debt as of the reporting date amounted to UAH 6,692.42 billion (USD 159.2 billion) compared to UAH 6,365.47 billion (USD 153.03 billion) a month earlier.

At the same time, direct external debt increased from USD 109.57 billion to USD 114.88 billion during the month.

Direct domestic debt increased in hryvnia equivalent from USD 1,807.99 billion to USD 1,863.13 billion (in dollar equivalent - from USD 43.47 billion to USD 44.32 billion).

State-guaranteed debt at the end of the reporting month amounted to USD 288.51 billion, or USD 6.86 billion.

Ukraine's total state (direct and guaranteed) debt in 2024 increased by 14.27%, or USD 20.74 billion, to USD 166.06 billion.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukraine's total public (direct and guaranteed) debt for 2023 increased by 30.4% or USD 33.87 billion to a record USD 145.32 billion.

In 2022, total public debt increased by USD 13.39 billion, or 13.66%, to USD 111.34 billion.

In 2021, total public debt increased by 8.52%, or USD 7.69 billion, to USD 97.95 billion.

In 2020, total public debt increased by 6.9% from USD 84.4 billion to USD 90.3 billion.
