European Parliament condemns russia for manipulating history to justify war - Stefanchuk

The European Parliament condemned russia for lack of responsibility for the crimes of the Soviet regime, manipulation of history and glorification of totalitarianism.

This was reported on his page on Facebook by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk.

"I welcome the decision of the European Parliament to condemn the russian federation for lack of responsibility for the crimes of the Soviet regime, manipulation of history and glorification of totalitarianism," he wrote.

The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada named the key highlights of the resolution:

ADVERTISING

- The European Parliament pointed out the attempts of the russian federation to create a "cult of victory", justifying totalitarianism, and to deny responsibility for the crimes of the Soviet regime, in particular the Holodomor, the tragedies in Katyn, mass deportations and the Gulag.

- The russian aggression is recognized as a continuation of imperialist policy: the Kremlin's crimes are clearly named - from the war in Chechnya to the occupation of Crimea and the invasion of Donbas.

- the document condemned the russian federation's use of historical revisionism and denial of Ukraine's national identity.

- The European Parliament called for the immediate withdrawal of russian troops from all occupied territories, the return of deported persons, the creation of a special tribunal to investigate crimes of aggression and the fight against russian disinformation.

ADVERTISING

- stressed the need to invest in the study of European history, preserve the memory of the victims of totalitarian regimes, and ban symbols of communism and Russian aggression.

"I am grateful for the consonance of the resolution with the clear position of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in condemning the nationalist imperialist ideology, policies, and practices of the current russian regime ("russian world") and recognizing it as incompatible with international law and European values," he concluded.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 19, 2024, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on European Union countries to allow Ukraine to use the weapons transferred to it to strike deep into russian territory.
