Units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine risk being operationally surrounded in the area of the village of Velyka Novosilka in the west of the Donetsk Region. The situation in this area continues to be difficult.
As RBC-Ukraine writes, Viktor Trehubov, the speaker of the Khortytsia OSTG, said this during a telethon.
According to him, it is quite difficult for the Ukrainian military to maintain defense in the Velyka Novosilka area due to the peculiarities of the terrain. A river flows through the village, which cuts through the settlement. Because of this, Ukrainian units are limited in maneuver.
"Nevertheless, all these problems are known. They were known before. And in fact, options are being developed to counteract this," Trehubov said.
He added that there is no risk of complete encirclement of Ukrainian units near Velyka Novosilka, but there is a threat of operational encirclement. The servicemen of the Defense Forces are making efforts to prevent the occupiers from establishing control over the approaches to the city.
The spokesman for the Khortytsia OSTG also said that the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, is in the group's area of responsibility. He is constantly monitoring the situation in the Velyka Novosilka area.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 22, the Defense Forces of Ukraine denied information that russian troops were allegedly threatening to encircle units of the Ukrainian army near Velyka Novosilka.
As we will recall, on the same day, analysts from the DeepState project reported that the occupiers' troops had allegedly advanced in the eastern part of Velyka Novosilka.
