US Secretary of State Marco Rubio plans to visit Panama as part of a trip to Latin America next week following US President Donald Trump's statements about the "return of the Panama Canal."

In addition, according to an anonymous source, Rubio also plans to visit Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica.
The trip is expected to be Rubio's first since he was sworn in as the top US diplomat on January 20.

Panama President José Raúl Mulino said that his country has no intention of handing over control of the Panama Canal to the US. If necessary, Panama will use international law to regulate relations with Washington.
