Ukraine needs at least 200,000 peacekeepers for security guarantees - Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy supports the idea of introducing peacekeeping contingents to Ukraine as part of security guarantees and believes that at least 200,000 European peacekeepers are needed to prevent a possible future attack by the aggressor country of russia.

Zelenskyy said this during a conversation with representatives of the International Media Council at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"I support the idea of contingents as part of security guarantees. Because if they (russia) have an army of 1.5 million, and if we have half that, it means that we need contingents with a very significant number of soldiers," Zelenskyy said.

When asked about, for example, a 200,000 contingent, Zelenskyy replied that this is the minimum.

"From all Europeans? 200,000 is the minimum," he replied.

At the same time, Zelenskyy stressed that he believes that NATO is the best and cheapest security guarantee for Ukraine, as well as for America, Europe and the russian federation.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 9, while participating in a meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine (Ramstein) in Germany, Zelenskyy stated that he considers the deployment of partner contingents in Ukraine to be one of the best tools for forcing the aggressor country of russia to make peace.
