For Mexico and the world, the Gulf of Mexico will remain Mexican. This is how President Claudia Sheinbaum responded to President Donald Trump's order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf, ABC News reports.
The President stressed that Trump's orders, which relate to the emergency on the southern border and protocols for the protection of migrants, are no different from the orders issued during Trump's first term.
"We will always act to protect our independence, to protect our citizens, who live in the United States. We act within the framework of our Constitution and laws. We always act with a cool head," she added.
Sheinbaum also disagreed with Trump's order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf.
"For us and the world, it is still the Gulf of Mexico," the President said.
Recall that earlier the President of Mexico reminded Trump that part of the United States previously belonged to the Mexican state.
