Russia modernizing weapons that pose huge threat to NATO - German Defense Ministry

Russia is supplying its troops with weapons in quantities that exceed the needs for the war against Ukraine, while simultaneously preparing for a possible conflict with NATO.

This was reported by Major General Christian Freuding, head of the Planning and Command Staff of the Defense Ministry, in an interview with the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

"We observe that the russian armed forces are not only able to compensate for their huge losses in personnel and material assets on their own and with the support of partners, but are also successfully rearming," he said.

According to him, the russian army has more tanks, more ammunition, more missiles, more drones every month. Production is growing, and stocks in warehouses are growing.

Freuding believes that although an attack by russian troops on the NATO alliance in the coming years is unlikely, "Moscow is clearly creating the conditions for this."

"Re-armament poses a 'huge threat' to Germany and Europe," said Marie Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, chairwoman of the European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defense.

She noted that russia has an impressive military strength and a wide range of powerful equipment. She also added that russia has been able to expand its military industry and production capacity despite Western sanctions.
