Six russian oil tankers, which are still under construction at the Zvezda shipyard, have come under US sanctions imposed last week.
This was reported by Reuters.
This is the first time that Washington has banned tankers from going to sea before they have even been launched, and even more so before they have begun transporting sanctioned cargo.
The six tankers, which are being built at the Zvezda shipyard, are on a list of 183 vessels that have been damaged. Among them are the Nursultan Nazarbayev, Alexander Beggrov, Alexey Bogolyubov and three vessels whose names are not yet disclosed: Zvezda 131080, Zvezda 131060 and Zvezda 131040.
According to the text of the sanctions, the russian company Sovcomflot is the buyer of the vessels Alexander Beggrov and Alexey Bogolyubov, while the buyer of four more vessels is Rosneft's shipping division, Rosnefteflot. Both of these buyers are also subject to US sanctions.
