The Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko has acknowledged the existence of corruption in the energy sector, but, according to him, these cases are exclusively "individual in nature".
He said this during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"Unfortunately, there were individual facts of corruption, they exist. It is very important here that these facts are individual in nature. All energy companies always provide assistance to law enforcement agencies in identifying or establishing this or that information. And it is very important that this (accusation of corruption) also has an individual nature, and does not spread to the entire energy sector," Halushchenko said.
According to the minister, the detection of corrupt actions is one of the tools that the intelligence service can use within the framework of its powers.
Another tool for combating corruption, Halushchenko called the creation of conditions at enterprises that would make it impossible to commit any corrupt acts, for which anti-corruption programs have been developed at the level of both the ministry and each energy company.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Serhii Nahorniak, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, head of the subcommittee on energy conservation and energy efficiency of the committee on energy and housing and communal services, believes that there will not be enough votes in parliament to dismiss the Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko.
