Czech Republic ready to abandon russian oil - Reuters

The Czech Republic is ready to abandon imports of russian crude oil through the Druzhba pipeline and replace it with supplies through the Transalpine Oil Pipeline (TAL), which has been modernized specifically for this purpose, the country's Prime Minister Petr Fiala said, Reuters writes.

"This is a crucial moment for the Czech Republic, because russia can no longer blackmail us with energy supplies," Petr Fiala said.

The TAL oil pipeline connects the port city of Trieste in northeastern Italy, where oil tankers arrive, with Germany, through which oil flows to the Czech Republic via the Mero Pipeline. After the modernization, the throughput capacity of the TAL for the Czech Republic has been doubled to 8 million tons of oil per year. Fiala stressed that certification is not yet complete, but the republic can already count on supplies through the pipeline in the event of disruptions in supplies through the Druzhba.

Earlier, the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, Lukasz Vlček, stated that Prague is ready to provide Slovakia with gas storage and transit capacity if Ukraine stops the transit of russian gas to Europe from January 1, 2025.
