In 2024, the amount of cash in circulation in Ukraine increased by 7.6% (or by UAH 58.0 billion) and as of January 1, 2025 amounted to UAH 822.4 billion.
This is stated in the NBU report, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

As of January 1 of this year, there were 2.6 billion banknotes in cash circulation for a total amount of UAH 814.3 billion, as well as 14.8 billion coins (excluding commemorative and investment coins) for a total amount of UAH 7.96 billion.
At the beginning of this year, there were: 63 banknotes and 186 payment, exchange and circulation coins per inhabitant of Ukraine (as of January 1, 2024 - 66 and 177 pieces, respectively).
The most in circulation are banknotes with a denomination of UAH 500, coins with a denomination of 10 kopecks (27.3% and 27.8% of the total number in circulation, respectively).
The least in cash circulation are banknotes with a denomination of UAH 50, and coins with a denomination of UAH 10 (4.4% and 1.8% of the total number in circulation, respectively).
The dynamics of the volume of coins in circulation shows that the highest growth rate in 2024 is accounted for by coins with a denomination of UAH 5 and UAH 10.
Their number in circulation increased by 27% and 33%, respectively, compared to the beginning of 2024.
This trend is explained by the fact that the NBU is gradually withdrawing banknotes with a denomination of 1, 2, 5 and 10 hryvnia from circulation, replacing them with the corresponding coins that are able to be in circulation for a much longer time.
The number of coins in cash circulation decreased the most last year, by 0.1% compared to the beginning of 2024, which was due to the withdrawal of these non-payment coins from circulation.
Also, the dynamics of the volume of banknotes in circulation in 2024 indicates a stable demand for banknotes in denominations of UAH 1,000, which is one of the consequences of the full-scale invasion, because due to the war, people prefer higher denominations of banknotes for storing savings.
At the same time, among the banknotes that support cash circulation, the largest reduction in quantity is in banknotes in denominations of UAH 200, the number of which in circulation decreased by 24.5% last year (in particular, due to their active replacement with banknotes in denominations of UAH 1,000 and the beginning of the gradual withdrawal of old samples of this denomination from circulation).
The number of banknotes in denominations of UAH 10 and UAH 5 also significantly decreased (by 15% and 11%, respectively), since, as already noted, they are gradually being withdrawn from circulation and replaced with the corresponding coins.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in 2023, the amount of cash in circulation in Ukraine increased by 6.7%, or by UAH 48.3 billion, and as of January 1, 2024, it amounted to UAH 764.4 billion.
