30.11 million times citizens crossed the state border in 2024 according to the Administration of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. 2% of those who left did not return back - about half a million citizens. Over the year, the number of Ukrainians not returning home has tripled, the Opendatabot portal reports.
"2% of Ukrainians who left last year did not return to Ukraine – 443,000. This is 3.3 times more than in 2023 - then the difference between those who left and those who returned was only 134,000. In 2024, the most people went missing in June – 194,000," the publication notes.
Only 3 months last year had positive dynamics, when there were more citizens who returned to the country than those who left. Among them, April - +58,000, July - +23,000 and August - +89,000 people.
In general, according to official data from the State Border Guard Service, about 3 million citizens did not return during the 3 years of full-scale war. This is almost the same as in the 11 years preceding the full-scale invasion - that is, from 2011 to 2021 (3.3 million).
It is worth noting that the data of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reflect only information about citizens who left at official checkpoints. There is currently no reliable data on Ukrainians who left the TOT or left illegally.
As previously reported, according to UN data, the population of Ukraine has decreased by 10 million, or about a quarter, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the aggressor country of russia. This happened as a result of the departure of refugees, a drop in the birth rate and deaths due to the war.
