Russian army prepares to blockade Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad - ISW

Russian troops are likely planning to cut off land supply routes to the cities of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad in the Donetsk Region to force Ukrainian troops to withdraw from these settlements.

This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

"Russian troops are likely planning to cut off Ukrainian land supply routes to Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad to force Ukrainian units to withdraw from these cities in the coming months. Routes T-0405 and T-0406 are two of the three main land supply routes for the Ukrainian group in the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad area, running from east to west," the report says.

According to ISW, the advance of russian troops in the eastern and western directions from Pokrovsk could significantly complicate the logistical support of Ukrainian troops. This will likely force Ukrainian defenders to retreat north, allowing the occupiers to surround Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad.

In addition, if the supply routes are successfully cut off, russian troops will be able to advance to the administrative border between the Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk Regions.

Analysts suggest that the russian military command is trying to avoid frontal attacks on the urban areas of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. Instead, the blockade of these cities may increase the likelihood of a retreat of Ukrainian troops, which will allow the russians to capture settlements without heavy urban fighting.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, analysts from the Ukrainian OSINT project DeepState claim that the situation in Toretsk, Donetsk Region, is unfavorable for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to them, the central part of the city is allegedly almost completely controlled by the occupiers.
