Zuckerberg says Biden administration 'shouted at' and 'cursed at' Meta for refusing to remove COVID content

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg said Biden administration officials 'shouted at' and 'cursed at' his employees when they disagreed with the government's demands to remove content related to the coronavirus pandemic.

He said this in an interview with podcaster Joe Rogan, The Hill reports.

"These people in the Biden administration called our team and shouted at them and cursed at them," he said.

Zuckerberg also discussed his move to fact-checking after announcing earlier this week that Meta plans to overhaul its content moderation policies.

"I was very worried from the beginning that I would be the one who determines what is true in the world. That's a pretty crazy position for billions of people who use your service," he said of combating misinformation.

He added: “It’s just gotten to the point where it’s just normal that this program is destroying so much trust, especially in the United States.”

On Tuesday, he announced that his company, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads, would shut down its third-party fact-checking program and replace it with a community-based program called Community Notes.

Like the program of the same name on Elon Musk’s social platform X, Meta’s Community Notes will rely on users to correct and provide context for potentially misleading posts.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Zuckerberg previously said he regretted that Meta had caved to pressure from the administration of US President Joe Biden to censor content, saying the intervention was “wrong” and that he planned to fight back if it happened again.
