NBU receives UAH 457 million for refinancing loans of bankrupt banks in 2024

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) received UAH 457 million in 2024 to repay problem debts on refinancing loans of insolvent banks.

This is stated in the NBU's message, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The largest amount of funds came from the sale of mortgaged real estate of guarantors of insolvent banks within the framework of enforcement proceedings - UAH 216.6 million.

In addition, the debt on refinancing loans provided by the National Bank was repaid at the expense of:

- foreclosure on real estate of guarantors of insolvent banks, which was not sold within the framework of enforcement proceedings, by acquiring such property by the National Bank - UAH 105.9 million;

- sale of property rights pledged by insolvent banks under credit agreements - UAH 100.3 million;

- other sources of debt repayment - ​​UAH 34.2 million.

Since 2015, the National Bank has repaid almost UAH 20 billion in debt under refinancing loans of insolvent banks.

As of January 1, 2025, its balance is UAH 36.7 billion, therefore, the National Bank will continue to take measures to ensure the repayment of problem debt under refinancing loans of insolvent banks.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the decision on the sale of pledged assets of insolvent banks is made by the Executive Directorate of the Deposit Guarantee Fund (DGF).

As a secured creditor, the National Bank has the right to offer other terms for the sale of assets held by it as collateral, after receiving an official decision from the Executive Directorate of the DGF.

The sale of assets is also carried out by the DGF.
