Metinvest has halted operations at its mine, located a few kilometers from the frontline town of Pokrovsk in the western Donetsk Region. The mine produced coal used to make coke for metallurgical enterprises.
Reuters reported this, citing two unnamed sources.
According to the first source, the Pokrovsk mine management stopped coal production due to the approach of the front line to the enterprise. He did not specify when exactly the mine stopped underground work.
Another source said that "there’s no production there." The company's employees work only on the surface, and an evacuation is currently underway.
The mine is located in the village of Udachne, and several of its air shafts are located near the settlements of Kotlyne and Pishchane.
According to the interactive map of the Ukrainian OSINT project DeepState, the line of combat contact is located in the immediate vicinity of these settlements.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in early December 2024 it became known that Metinvest had stopped the operation of one of the coal mining sites near the village of Pishchane.
Recall that in September 2024, Bloomberg wrote that the loss of control over the coal mine in the area of Pokrovsk would lead to the fact that Ukrainian steel producers would be forced to import coking coal from abroad.
We also wrote that Ukraine faces a 50 percent drop in steel production in the event of the loss of the coal mine near Pokrovsk.
