Captured DPRK soldier speaks of "significant" losses – South Korean intelligence agency

The South Korean intelligence agency has confirmed that the Ukrainian Defense Forces captured two North Korean soldiers in the Kursk Oblast.

It was reported by Yonhap News Agency.

As reported, the Republic of Korea's intelligence agency quoted one of the DPRK soldiers captured by Ukrainians as saying that russia had faced "significant" losses among North Korean soldiers.

"(We) will continue to share information related to the North Korean prisoners in close cooperation with Ukraine’s intelligence authorities," the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine said, adding that the wounded soldiers are not in critical condition.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on Saturday, January 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Defense Forces captured two North Korean soldiers in the Kursk Oblast. According to him, this task was not easy: usually russians and other military personnel from North Korea finish off their wounded and do everything to prevent evidence of the participation of another state - North Korea - in the war against Ukraine from being preserved.

The SSU also reported that the prisoners were taken to Kyiv for primary investigative measures. They are being held in appropriate conditions that meet the requirements of international law. The prisoners do not speak Ukrainian, English or russian, so communication with them takes place through Korean translators in cooperation with the intelligence of South Korea's NIS.

At the time of capture, one of the foreigners had a russian-style military ID card with him, issued in the name of another person with registration in the Republic of Tuva, russia. And the other was without documents at all.
