The Verkhovna Rada has extended the possibility of a voluntary return from the first unauthorized abandonment of a military unit until March 1.
Yaroslav Zhelezniak, a member of the parliament from the Holos faction, announced this on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
A total of 298 parliamentarians voted for the adoption of bill No. 12076, with a minimum required of 226.
The law changed the norms in the Final Provisions in the law "On Military Registration and Military Service" regarding the unauthorized abandonment of a military unit.
Back on August 21, the Rada adopted a law that proposes not to punish for the first unauthorized abandonment of a military unit or desertion if the serviceman voluntarily returned and the commander allowed him to continue his service.
The corresponding opportunity for servicemen to return from the first unauthorized abandonment of a military unit without criminal liability, according to the norms of the August law, was until January 1, 2025.
By the decision adopted today, the Rada extended the period for voluntary return from the first unauthorized abandonment of a military unit without consequences until March 1.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Roman Kostenko, a Member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Holos faction and secretary of the parliamentary committee on national security, defense and intelligence, reported that the military had requested an extension of the period for voluntary return from the first unauthorized abandonment of a military unit.
Meanwhile, the Rada changed the procedure for registering 17-year-olds with the military.
