Population bought record amount of currency in 2024

In 2024, the population bought USD 11.1 billion more in currency than it sold.

This is stated in the reporting data of the National Bank, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Thus, last year, Ukrainians sold currency for USD 14,904.8 million in equivalent, and bought for USD 25,959.2 million in equivalent.

Thus, in 2024, the population bought USD 11,054.4 million more than it sold, which became a historical maximum.

In addition, in December 2024, the net sale of currency by the National Bank amounted to USD 5.3 billion, which is almost 2 times more than the net sale in November (USD 2.7 billion).

In total, in 2024, the National Bank sold currency for more than USD 35.1 billion.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in 2023, the population bought USD 3,362.1 million more than it sold.

According to the results of 2022, the population bought USD 1,009.5 million more in currency than it sold.

In 2021, the population sold USD 1,214.7 million more in currency than it bought.

In 2020, the volume of cash currency sales exceeded the volume of purchases by USD 1.098 billion.

The National Bank introduced managed exchange rate flexibility from October 3, 2023.

The NBU abolished all currency restrictions for the import of works and services and allowed the repatriation of "new" dividends.
