The first active pharmaceutical ingredient based on medical cannabis has been registered in Ukraine - oral drops from the Spanish manufacturer Curaleaf.
This is stated in a message of the Ukrainian Association of Medical Cannabis, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The message states that on August 16, 2024, a law on the legalization of medical cannabis came into force in Ukraine, which allowed doctors to prescribe cannabis-based medicines.
UCCG (Ukrainian Consulting Cannabis Group) successfully supported the entry of the Spanish manufacturer Curaleaf into the Ukrainian market.
“We are proud to have become the first to help implement this important step for Ukrainian medicine,” said UCCG founder Hanna Hlushchenko.
It is expected that the first drops based on medical cannabis will appear in production pharmacies in the first half of 2025.
"According to the latest published data from representatives of the Ministry of Health, more than 6,000,000 people in Ukraine need medical cannabis-based medicines. We continue to work on expanding the list of diseases, primarily PTSD," said the founder of the Ukrainian Medical Cannabis Association, Hennadii Shabas.
Such drugs will be available to patients with diseases that are included in the approved list of diseases and conditions for which medical cannabis is prescribed by the Ministry of Health.
Among them: chronic or neuropathic pain, nausea, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, anorexia and other diseases.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the EU is ready to supply medical cannabis to Ukraine.
