The administration of current US President Joe Biden plans to impose additional sanctions against the aggressor country of russia, which would reduce its revenues from oil sales.
This was reported by Reuters on Monday, January 6.
Informed sources noted that the US intends to strengthen support for Ukraine before the accession of President-elect Donald Trump due to his statements about the cost of supporting the country in the war. To this end, the Administration of the current President plans to impose sanctions against the russian "shadow fleet".
"The Biden Administration is planning to impose sanctions on tankers carrying russian oil that is sold above the Western-set cap of USD 60 per barrel, sources said. Russia has been using this so-called shadow fleet of aging ships to avoid the cap. Many of the vessels are less safe and prone to oil spills, shipping experts say," the report said.
One of the sources said the sanctions would likely also target individuals involved in networks trading oil above the cap.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the United States continues to impose sanctions on tankers and firms found to be violating the price ceiling for russian oil.
The U.S. government is considering further sanctions on tankers in russia's "shadow fleet" and is also considering imposing sanctions on Chinese banks to try to reduce russia's oil revenues.
In addition, the British government has expanded the list of tankers belonging to the so-called "shadow fleet" of the aggressor country of russia, against which sanctions have been imposed.
