General Staff speaks about clashes with enemy for first time after reports of AFU offensive in Kursk Oblast

As of the evening of January 5, 42 clashes had taken place in the Kursk Oblast. At the same time, the military command neither denied nor refuted, whether a new offensive by Ukrainian forces was taking place there.

This is stated in the message of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"There have been 42 clashes in the Kursk Oblast so far, 12 of which are still ongoing," the evening summary says.

If we compare it with the previous day, there were more clashes. As of 10 p.m. on January 4, Ukrainian forces on the Kursk axis had repelled 30 russian attacks. In addition, the russians launched nine air strikes with 19 guided bombs and carried out 265 artillery shells on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.

On January 5, information appeared in the media about a new offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in certain areas of the Kursk Oblast. This was later confirmed by the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, Andrii Kovalenko.

"Russians in the Kursk Oblast are experiencing great anxiety, because they were attacked in several directions and this came as a surprise to them. The defense forces are working," he wrote.

Head of the Presidential Office, Andrii Yermak, also confirmed the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk Oblast. He noted that the russians are getting what they deserve.
