Defense Intelligence names number of prisoners who were returned from russia in 2024

In 2024, 1,358 Ukrainians were returned from the captivity of the russian federation.

The Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has reported this.

"The past year was difficult for us, but productive. In particular, 356 more people were released from captivity than in 2023," said the head of the Defense Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov.

According to him, the Coordination Headquarters began to officially work with the families of civilians, the Council of the Coordination Headquarters was formed, and a public council is in the process of being created.

"On our initiative, the terms of rehabilitation and support for those released from Russian captivity were extended, and many other important changes have occurred," the head of the Defense Intelligence added.

Recall that on December 30, Ukraine returned another 189 Ukrainians from russian captivity, including defenders of Azovstal and Mariupol, the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the Zmiinyi Island, and two civilians. Among those returned are those who were captured in the Kursk Oblast.

In addition, according to the Prosecutor General, up to 90% of Ukrainian servicemen were subjected to torture, sexual violence, or other forms of inhuman treatment in russian captivity.
