In 2024, compared to 2023, Ukraine increased gas production by 2.2% to 19.12 billion cubic meters.
This is announced by the ExPro publication, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The report says that this is the highest increase in production since 2018.
In the period from 2019 to 2022, gas production volumes decreased.
In 2022, natural gas production in Ukraine fell by 6% due to the full-scale russian invasion.
Already in 2023, companies were able to show an increase in gas production volumes, primarily state-owned ones.
The country's largest gas producer, state-owned JSC Ukrgasvydobuvannia, produced 14.55 billion cubic meters of gross natural gas in 2024, 4.6% more than in 2023 (over 13.9 billion cubic meters).
This year's production volumes of Ukrgasvydobuvannia are the highest in 6 years, when UGV production amounted to 14.9 billion cubic meters in 2019.
Ukrgasvydobuvannia's production of marketable gas increased by 5.1% to 13.9 billion cubic meters in 2024, which is the highest annual figure for the company since 2014.
Record-breaking drilling and well operations provided a significant increase in the state-owned company's gas production.
During 2024, PJSC Ukrnafta produced 1.17 billion cubic meters of natural gas, 6.6% more than last year (almost 1.1 billion cubic meters).
For the company, these are the largest volumes of natural gas production since 2016.
During 2024, Ukrnafta continued to increase the volume of drilling, overhauls and other operations, which allowed to increase natural gas production.
Private companies, on the other hand, reduced the volume of natural gas production by 8% - to over 3.4 billion cubic meters in 2024.
Production by private companies is at its lowest level since at least 2016.
A further reduction in production volumes is due to the blocking of special permits, in particular, Ukrnaftoburinnia, which did not produce natural gas from December 2023 to August 2024.
However, in August, UNB resumed production, which led to an increase in natural gas production by private companies compared to last year.
Nevertheless, in November, the State Geological Survey of Ukraine again suspended the validity of Smart Energy's special permits.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in October, compared to October 2023, Ukraine increased gas production by 2.3% to 1.663 billion cubic meters.
According to ExPro forecasts, the volume of gross natural gas production in Ukraine in 2024 may increase by 2.2%, or 420 million cubic meters - to 19.1 billion cubic meters.
