Fiber-optic cable-controlled FPV drones will be supplied to the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the near future.
The Ministry of Defense announced this, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The Ministry of Defense reported in particular that the Ministry's Main Department of Defense Innovations, as part of the programs for the implementation of innovations and development of the army of the future, conducted a presentation testing of FPV drones controlled via a fiber-optic cable for representatives of the commands of individual branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As part of the event, a number of domestic manufacturers presented more than a dozen drone models, some of which are capable of carrying up to 3 kg of payload.
The demonstration flights were directly observed by experienced UAV operators - potential users of the latest technology on the battlefield.
"The enemy continues to increase its capabilities in the use of drone control technologies via fiber optics, so it is extremely necessary to level its advantages in this segment. Domestic manufacturers demonstrate their readiness to quickly adapt to modern challenges of war and implement the latest developments. Today, in confirmation of this, we see the successful operation of the means and their effectiveness and, no less importantly, the readiness to quickly scale these technologies to meet the needs of the army," said Lieutenant Colonel Yevhen Tkachenko, Head of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Department of the Main Innovation Department of the Ministry of Defense.
It is noted that the UAV operators, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, positively assessed the tactical and technical characteristics of the drones, confirmed during demonstration flights, and expressed interest in supplying such means for the needs of the units.
"Although the technology is not new, it is extremely effective in the conditions of modern warfare and active electronic countermeasures from the enemy. Despite certain peculiarities of using this type of drones, they are indispensable for the successful performance of certain special tasks. We expect that with their help the effectiveness of combat missions will significantly increase," said an external pilot, a UAV operator of one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to Tkachenko, a number of means presented at the demonstration are already at the final stage of codification and will soon be supplied for the needs of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, at the end of December, the head of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, stated that the occupiers began to massively use UAVs with a cable at the front, which creates a big problem in the context of drone warfare. These are drones to which a coil with a fiber-optic cable is attached, which makes it impossible to suppress the drone using electronic warfare means, since the communication between the device and the operator is not carried out via a radio channel, but directly via a wire.
