In 2024, Ukraine increased electricity imports 5.5 times to 4.4 million MWh

In 2024, compared to 2023, Ukraine increased electricity imports 5.5 times to 4.4 million MWh.

This is announced by the ExPro publication, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The report states that in the import structure for 2024, Hungary took 39%, Slovakia - 23%, Romania - 18%, Poland - 14% and Moldova - 5%.

The peak of imports this year was in June, a total of more than 850,000 MWh was supplied.

The increase in supplies was due to a favorable price situation in neighboring electricity markets.

In December, compared to November, Ukraine increased electricity imports 2.6 times to over 430,000 MWh.

Hungary continues to occupy the largest share in the import structure - 35%.

Slovakia is in second place, with 25%.

Imports from Hungary increased the most in a month, 4 times - to 152,000 MWh.

Electricity exports in 2024 remained almost at the level of 2023 - 366,000 MWh. The largest amount of electricity for the year was supplied in March - 154,000 MWh.

Thus, according to the results of 2024, Ukraine is a net importer.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in November, compared to October, Ukraine reduced electricity imports by 9.4% to almost 165,000 MWh.
