On the night of Wednesday, January 1, during an attack by russian drones on the Pecherskyi district of Kyiv, famous Ukrainian neurobiologist Ihor Zyma and his wife, biologist Olesia Sokur, were tragically killed.
This was reported by a family friend, Daria Dushechkina.
"On January, 2025, in the first drone attack on Kyiv in 2025, our friend, an outstanding person, Doctor of Sciences Ihor Zyma was killed with his whole family: together with his wife and cat. Just at home. In bed. We would most likely have celebrated the New Year at their house," she wrote.

Earlier, Daria's husband, Oleksii Bobrovnikov, who holds the position of first secretary at the Ukrainian Embassy in Kenya, reported that the neurobiologist's apartment was hit:
"Today, the enemy, attacking the city, hit the apartment of our friend Ihor Zyma, a neurobiologist, professor, and odor specialist. Ihor is not answering the phone yet, we keep our fists crossed," he noted.
Ihor Zyma was a doctor of biological sciences and worked at the National Research Center "Institute of Biology and Medicine" of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. His scientific experience was over 40 years, he headed a team engaged in research in the field of neuro- and psychophysiology. Zyma was also the head of the unique project "Integrative EEG", aimed at comprehensive study of the brain.
As previously reported, in the Pecherskyi district of Kyiv, the body of a deceased woman was found under the rubble of a residential building damaged by a russian drone attack.
