Court arrests commander of 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade Poberezhniuk and sets bail of UAH 12 million

The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of arrest with the possibility of posting a bail of UAH 2.1 million for the commander of the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleh Poberezhniuk, who covered up the abuse of soldiers.

The Prosecutor General's Office has announced this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"The commander of the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade was chosen a preventive measure - detention with the possibility of posting a bail of UAH 12.112 million," the report says.

It is noted that the prosecutors requested the choice of a preventive measure in the form of detention with the right to post a bail of UAH 40 million.

Prosecutors from the Prosecutor General's Office also filed a motion with the court to remove the suspect from his duties.

Earlier, the commander of the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade was notified of suspicion of inaction of military authorities committed under martial law or in a combat situation (Part 4 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code).

According to the investigation, the suspect knew since February 2024 that his subordinate platoon commander, exceeding his authority, was mocking his subordinate soldiers, but he did not initiate the issue of bringing the officer to justice.

Poberezhniuk was detained again on December 29.

As Ukrainian News reported, the commander of the aforementioned brigade was also notified of suspicion of abuse of office (Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

It was established that in the fall of 2023, he involved four subordinates in the construction of his house in the Khmelnytskyi Region, instead of their service in combat zones.

At the same time, the soldiers received salaries and combat payments totaling almost UAH 1 million.

The servicemen from the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade of the Armed Forces Support Forces were bullied so much that their internal organs were damaged and bones were broken.

On December 16, 2024, the Ternopil Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Field of Defense launched a pre-trial investigation into the bullying case. Poberezhniuk was informed of suspicion of abuse of office.

On December 19, the brigade commander was arrested with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of UAH 908,000.

On December 20, it became known that Poberezhniuk left the pre-trial detention center after posting bail.

On December 29, the State Bureau of Investigation detained and reported a new suspicion to the commander of the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade, Oleh Poberezhniuk, who covered up the abuse of servicemen.
