In Afghanistan, Taliban bans windows overlooking places "usually used by women"

The Taliban's supreme leader has issued an order prohibiting the construction of windows in residential buildings that overlook places used by Afghan women. At the same time, according to the order, existing such windows must be blocked.

This is reported by France 24.

According to the statement, new buildings must not have windows through which one can see "the yard, the kitchen, the neighbor's well and other places usually used by women."

The order is justified by the fact that "seeing women working in the kitchen, in the yard or drawing water from the well can lead to indecent acts."

It is indicated that municipal authorities and other relevant departments will have to monitor construction sites to ensure that they cannot be used to look into neighbors' houses.

At the same time, regarding existing such windows, the owners will be offered to build a wall or close them "to avoid inconvenience to neighbors."

The publication recalls that after the Taliban returned to power in August 2021, girls and women were banned from receiving post-secondary education, employment was restricted, and access to parks and other public places was blocked.

In addition, a recently adopted law even prohibits women from singing or reciting poetry in public. The Taliban government also encourages them to "veil" their voices and bodies outside the home.

As Ukrainian News Agency reported, earlier in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Virtue Propaganda and Prevention of Vice of the Islamic movement Taliban banned women from speaking in the presence of other women.
