The United States has allocated nearly USD 2.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine, the White House said in a statement on December 30.
"Today, I am proud to announce nearly USD 2.5 billion in security assistance to Ukraine as the Ukrainian people continue to defend their independence and freedom from russian aggression," the White House said in a statement.
The announcement includes an additional USD 1.25 billion for the Ukrainian military and a USD 1.22 billion package under the Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). It is noted that this provides Ukraine with both an immediate influx of battlefield capabilities and long-term supplies of air defense systems, artillery and other critical weapons systems.
According to Biden, this package uses all remaining USAI funds allocated by Congress.
"The Department of Defense is currently in the process of delivering hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, thousands of missiles, and hundreds of armored vehicles that will strengthen Ukraine's position as winter approaches. At my direction, the United States will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen Ukraine's position in this war for the rest of my term in office," the US President said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukraine will receive USD 15 billion from the US, the funds provided by future proceeds from frozen russian assets.
