President Zelenskyy expresses condolences to Azerbaijan in connection with plane crash

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart, expressing condolences to Ilham Aliyev regarding the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines flight J2-8243.

It was reported on the Telegram channel of the Head of Ukraine.

"I had a conversation with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and expressed condolences to him and the Azerbaijani people in connection with the terrible crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines flight J2-8243," the President of Ukraine said.

In Zelenskyy's opinion, the key priority now is a thorough investigation that will provide answers to all questions about what really happened. Russia must provide clear explanations and stop spreading disinformation.

"The photo and video clearly show damage to the aircraft's fuselage, including holes and dents that are very reminiscent of an air defense missile strike. We will support Azerbaijan in this situation by all necessary means and call on other countries to also provide assistance. In addition, we have agreed to intensify bilateral contacts in the near future," the President of Ukraine noted.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on December 25, an Azerbaijan Airlines plane flew from Baku to Grozny, but over the city reported a possible collision with birds and abruptly changed course to Kazakhstan. At that time, the russians were repelling a drone attack in the Caucasus. Footage has spread online showing suspicious holes in the tail of the plane that crashed in Aktau, which look like the results of an air defense missile explosion.

According to the main version of the investigation, the Embraer 190 plane of the AZAL airline crashed near the city of Aktau due to a missile strike from an air defense system. In addition, the plane had communication problems due to the operation of electronic warfare in Grozny.
