The French company CMA CGM, which is among the world's three largest operators of maritime container transportation, is restoring shipping connections with Ukraine.
The specialized publication Splash 24/7 has announced this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The report says that at the end of next month, the Marseille-based company CMA CGM will launch a new route Odessa Express (ODX), which will connect the ports of Piraeus, Istanbul and Odesa.
It is noted that this is the second major operator to return to Ukraine with its own vessels.
Earlier this year, MSC began transportation between Constanta (Romania) and Chornomorsk.
According to Alphaliner, a company specializing in analyzing the container transportation market, CMA CGM will be the first operator to offer direct shipping connections between Greece and Ukraine since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion.
"Two ships will be deployed weekly the 1,118 teu Lila Canada and the 1,550 teu TJ Orhan. The TJ Orhan is set to sail from Piraeus on January 24 and call Odesa four days later, according to Alphaliner," the report said.
The report also said that regular sea voyages to Ukraine resumed in April this year, when the Ukrainian transport and logistics company Iteris Feeders opened a route between Constanta and Chornomorsk.
In addition, Splash 24/7 reports that Turkish operator Medkon Lines has announced the resumption of its route between Turkey and Ukraine, which was suspended in early 2022.
The service will start operating from mid-January, making Medkon Lines the first Turkish operator to return to the Ukrainian market.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in November 2024, compared to November 2023, Ukrainian seaports increased cargo processing by 13.4% to 7.6 million tons.
