The wife of former Syrian President Bashar Assad, Asma, is experiencing a relapse of leukemia (an oncological malignant blood disease), in order to avoid transmitting infectious diseases to the woman, doctors isolated her from other people. She is currently in isolation, doctors give her a 50/50 chance of survival.
This is reported by The Telegraph.
According to the publication, Assad's wife, who is a citizen of Britain and Syria, is in isolation to prevent infection. Sources shared with journalists that her father, Fawaz Akhras, was caring for his daughter in Moscow, and he is "heartbroken."
In May 2024, the Syrian presidency announced that the then first lady was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, an aggressive cancer of the bone marrow and blood. She was also treated for breast cancer and in August 2019 announced that she had "completely" gotten rid of the disease after a year of treatment.
It is believed that the leukemia reappeared after a period of remission.
Asma graduated from King's College, University of London, went into investment banking and managed to work in several well-known credit organizations in the West.
Asma met Bashar Assad in 2000 during a trip to visit relatives in Syria, Assad was a family friend. A few months later, the couple got married, their son Karim was born in 2004.
