The Defense Forces of Ukraine are conducting stabilization measures and trying to prevent encirclement in the Makarivka area near Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk Region.
The spokesman for the Defense Forces of the South, Vladyslav Voloshyn, announced this to Radio Svoboda, Ukrinform reports.
According to him, "the Defense Forces are conducting stabilization measures, trying to restore positions, trying to prevent our forces from being surrounded, so active defense is currently underway, a defensive operation is underway. Its consequences, its results will be known later."
"We are conducting a stabilization operation there, trying to prevent our troops from being encircled or semi-encircled, so that the front line, the line of combat contact is such that we can have communication with each unit, each of our formations, have logistical routes with them," Voloshyn specified.
According to him, "the situation is quite difficult, but not hopeless. Our guys are holding on, trying to stop the enemy in this direction."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Troops Group denied yesterday's statement by the analytical project DeepState that parts of the Defense Forces of Ukraine allegedly found themselves in a de facto encirclement in the Kurakhove area of the Donetsk Region.
On December 13, Member of Parliament Mariana Bezuhla stated that General Oleksandr Lutsenko had been dismissed from the post of commander of the Donetsk Operational and Tactical Troops Group. Units of this group operate on the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove axes.
