Ukraine completes development of Trembita missile capable of hitting moscow – The Economist

Ukrainian volunteer engineers are working on a new missile called Trembita that could reach moscow. The project is in the final stages of testing, with mass production planned to begin soon.

The Economist reports this.

The publication reports that Trembita is a modern cruise missile based on a modified version of the pulse jet engine first used in the German V-1 bomb in 1944. Its basic version can travel 200 km at a speed of 400 km/h. The team is currently working on an improved version with a range that will allow it to reach the russian capital.

"It is uncertain how long Ukraine can count on massive foreign military aid. Hence the Trembita, which is one of several missile projects the country hopes will ignite a resurgence in its domestic industry," the publication writes.

The missile is focused on economy and mobility, which will allow it to effectively exhaust enemy air defenses. The cost of one shell with a warhead weighing 20-30 kg is about USD 15,000, and in the decoy version - only USD 3,000.

"But Ukraine still needs time, which may be scarce. A senior security official says the country is at least a year away from producing missiles in the numbers, range and capabilities that would seriously threaten Russia," the publication says.

The development of this missile is a response to Ukraine's restrictions on the use of foreign long-range missiles. Currently, most strikes are concentrated near the front, leaving russian troops in the rear relatively safe. Thanks to Trembita, the situation may change, as it will become an accessible and effective means of striking strategic targets on russian territory.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Defense has put Ukrainian-made hand grenades into service.
