Israel confirms involvement in Hamas leader's assassination in Iranian capital for first time in 6 months

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has said the Israeli army was behind the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh. He was killed in an airstrike on July 31, 2024 in the Iranian capital.

According to The Times of Israel, Katz's statement was the first in nearly six months since Haniyeh's death.

Speaking at an event dedicated to the memory of security officers, Katz threatened the Yemeni Houthis, who have been systematically carrying out attacks on Israeli territory.

"We will strike [the Houthis’] strategic infrastructure and decapitate its leaders. Just as we did to Haniyeh, Sinwar, and Nasrallah, in Tehran, Gaza, and Lebanon — we will do in Hodeidah and Sanaa," Katz said.

According to him, Israel also "blinded" Iran's defense system, disrupted the Iranian missile production system and overthrew the regime of dictator Bashar Assad in Syria.

" Whoever raises a hand against Israel will have their hand cut off, and the long arm of the IDF will strike them and settle the score," Katz added.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in his residence in the Iranian capital.

As we will recall, then U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that Washington was not involved in Haniyeh's murder.
