Poland threatens to arrest Netanyahu if he comes to Auschwitz memorial

Poland will arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for whom the International Criminal Court has issued a warrant, if he visits the Auschwitz concentration camp on the anniversary of the liberation of the German concentration camp.

This was stated by Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Władysław Bartoszewski in a comment to the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita, the Jerusalem Post reports.

Poland invited Education Minister Yoav Kish to the memorial. But they do not rule out that the Israeli Prime Minister may also come. It is currently unknown whether Netanyahu plans to visit.

Memorial events marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp are scheduled for January 27, 2025. This event is celebrated at the state level in Poland.

As a reminder, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas leader Ibrahim al-Masri for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.

In their decision to issue the warrants, the ICC judges stated that there are reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant are criminally responsible for the famine in Gaza and the persecution of Palestinians.

In turn, the Office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized and called the ICC's decision to issue arrest warrants against him and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant "anti-Semitic."
