Military salaries fail to keep soldiers in UK Armed Forces

British soldiers are leaving the UK Armed Forces en masse despite the biggest pay increase in 22 years.

This is reported by The Telegraph.

In the year to October 2024, 15,119 people left the Armed Forces, of whom 7,778 left voluntarily.

Recently, the UK has raised the salaries of military personnel. However, this did not help: military personnel remain the lowest paid category among civil servants.

During a survey conducted among military personnel, only 32% of respondents expressed satisfaction with their salaries. However, the survey was conducted before the decision to increase salaries was made.

Currently, there is a serious shortage of personnel in combat units, as a result of which only three of the more than 20 infantry battalions are staffed with people within 70-80%.

Overall, the total number of combat-ready military personnel in the Armed Forces has decreased from 74,966 in 2020 to 70,290 in 2024.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, British Armed Forces personnel will pay increased attention to studying trench warfare tactics as they observe the fighting between Ukraine and russia.
