Stained glass window in St. Nicholas Church, broken during shelling, will be restored according to authentic drawings

The stained glass window of the St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv, which was broken during the russian shelling on December 20, will be restored according to the original 19th century drawings - during the Soviet era, the original glass was replaced with lower-quality glass.

This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine.

First of all, temporary facing will be installed in the damaged church to maintain the optimal temperature inside. This will protect the facades and interior spaces from external influences while preparatory work for restoration continues.

The stained glass window between the two towers of the church suffered the most. It will be re-made after the act of loss and damage is completed and the list of repair actions is approved.

The fact is that in 1979-1981, the church was reconstructed to turn it into a concert hall. Therefore, some elements of the composition were removed, and the glass in the stained glass was replaced with a mediocre version.
